Horbury Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after Children and all previously Looked after Children and Children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Pyramid school pupils – in-catchment with sibling — Children who attend a school/academy in the Horbury Academy Pyramid (see explanatory note 14.3) meeting the following criteria: (i) Children who live in Horbury Academy's catchment area, who have brothers and sisters attending Horbury Academy at the time of admission (see explanatory note 14.4);
3. 3Pyramid school pupils – in-catchment — Children who attend a school/academy in the Horbury Academy Pyramid meeting the following criteria: (ii) Other children who live in the Horbury Academy catchment area (see explanatory note 14.5);
4. 4Pyramid school pupils – sibling at Horbury Academy — Children who attend a school/academy in the Horbury Academy Pyramid meeting the following criteria: (iii) Children who have brothers or sisters in attendance at Horbury Academy (see explanatory note 14.6);
5. 5Pyramid school pupils – other — Children who attend a school/academy in the Horbury Academy Pyramid meeting the following criteria: (iv) Other children, with priority being given to those living nearest to Horbury Academy;
6. 6In-catchment with sibling at Horbury Academy — Children who live in Horbury Academy's catchment area, who have brothers and sisters attending Horbury Academy at the time of admission (see explanatory note 14.4);
7. 7In-catchment — Other children who live in the Horbury Academy catchment area (see explanatory note 14.5);
8. 8Sibling at Horbury Academy — Children who have brothers or sisters in attendance at Horbury Academy (see explanatory note 14.6);
9. 9Other children — Other children, with priority being given to those living nearest to Horbury Academy.

If two applications tie: In all categories, when decisions have to be made between children satisfying the same criterion, children living nearest to the school, measured as the crow flies, have priority. The distance will be measured using the National Land and Property Gazeteer (NLPG). Where there is more than one application from a postal address contained within a block of flats, places will be decided by random allocation. If two or more pupils live equidistant from the school, the distance each pupil lives by road from the preferred school will be measured and the place offered to the pupil who lives nearest by this means. In the event of this being equal, places will then be decided by random allocation.

The policy structure lists criteria 1(b)(i)-(iv) for Horbury Academy Pyramid school attendees as a sub-group within priority 1(b), followed by criteria (c)-(f) for non-Pyramid applicants. Children with an EHC Plan naming the school are admitted automatically outside the ranked criteria process and counted against the PAN.
