Distance depends on the band here
Trinity Academy Cathedral admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Admissions will be Fair Banded. All applicants are invited to take a non-verbal reasoning assessment to divide them into 4 ability bands (Band 1 at the bottom up to Band 4 at the top). The required number from each band is admitted based on the spread of ability of those applying. Applicants who sit the fair banding assessment are considered for admission first. Any applicants who choose not to sit the fair banding assessment will be 'non-banded' and will be ranked in order of priority (after all of the banded applicants), with the level of priority then determined with reference to the oversubscription criteria. 10% of the intake (21 students) is reserved for CAPA Juniors (performing arts aptitude pathway).
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Random allocation (undertaken by the local authority or another body unconnected with TAC) will be used as a tie-break to decide who has highest priority for admission if the distance between a child's home and the academy is equidistant in any individual case. However, if children of multiple birth (twins and triplets) are tied for the final place, those siblings will be admitted over PAN.
The 210 PAN is split: 90% (189 places) on the Main Curriculum Pathway and 10% (21 places) on the CAPA Juniors Pathway for performing arts aptitude. The document references 180 places in one section (likely an error or referring to banded places excluding CAPA). Non-banded applicants are ranked after all banded applicants. Criterion 1a (previously in state care outside England) is listed as a sub-criterion but appears as a separate priority between criteria 1 and 2.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
