When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Relevant Looked After Children and previously looked after children (see note (a) below).
2. 2Catchment area with sibling — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of this school as defined by the Admission Authority and it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of this school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see notes (b) and (c) below).
3. 3Catchment area — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of the school as defined by the Admission Authority (see note (b) below).
4. 4Sibling at preferred school — Children who, on 15th January 2027, it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of the preferred school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see note (c) below).
5. 5Children of staff — Children of staff at the school meeting the following criteria: where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made; the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the school for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Nearest distance — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live nearest to the school measured by a straight line on a horizontal plane, (commonly known as measurement 'as the crow flies').

If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription within any criterion preference will be given to children who live nearest to the school as the crow flies. Distance measurements are calculated (by RMBC Admissions Team) using GIS which applies seed points as determined by Ordnance Survey. In the event of two distances being equal, lots will be drawn by a representative independent of the admission authority.

This policy is published jointly by the New Collaborative Learning Trust for Anston Greenlands Primary School, Thorpe Hesley Primary School, and Redscope Primary School, and applies identically to all three named schools. Children with an Education Health and Care Plan naming the school are admitted first as required by law, per note (h), but this is not numbered within the ordered criteria list.
