Thorpe Hesley Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Relevant Looked After Children and previously looked after children (see note (a) below).
2. 2Catchment area with sibling — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of this school as defined by the Admission Authority and it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of this school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see notes (b) and (c) below)
3. 3Catchment area — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live in the catchment area of the school as defined by the Admission Authority (see note (b) below)
4. 4Sibling at preferred school — Children who, on 15th January 2027, it is expected will have an older brother or sister on the roll of the preferred school in Years 1-6 at the start of the academic year 2027 (see note (c) below)
5. 5Children of staff — Children of staff at the school meeting the following criteria: • where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made; • the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the school for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Nearest distance — Children who, on 15th January 2027, live nearest to the school measured by a straight line on a horizontal plane, (commonly known as measurement "as the crow flies").

If two applications tie: In the event of oversubscription within any criterion preference will be given to children who live nearest to the school as the crow flies... In the event of two distances being equal, lots will be drawn by a representative independent of the admission authority.

This policy is a single trust-wide (New Collaborative Learning Trust) admissions policy shared by Anston Greenlands Primary School, Thorpe Hesley Primary School and Redscope Primary School; only the criteria applicable to Thorpe Hesley Primary School are reproduced here. Children with an Education Health and Care Plan naming the school are admitted first as part of that process (note h), prior to this ranked list.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
