Carisbrooke College

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after or previously looked after children — Children who are in the care of a local authority or children who were previously in care but immediately after being in care became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order.
2. 2Specific medical condition — Pupils with a specific medical condition, confirmed by a consultant paediatrician or similar health professional, which makes this school the most appropriate; must be supported by independent evidence at the time of application.
3. 3Nearest school, with an elder sibling already attending — Pupils for whom Carisbrooke College is their nearest school who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister) already at the school who will still be in attendance in September 2027.
4. 4Children of staff — Children of staff who have (1) been employed at Carisbrooke College for two or more years at the time of application, or (2) been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
5. 5Other pupils for whom it is their nearest school — Other pupils for whom Carisbrooke College is their nearest school.
6. 6Not nearest school, with an elder sibling already attending — Pupils for whom Carisbrooke College is not their nearest school who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister) already at the school who will still be in attendance in September 2027.
7. 7Not their nearest school — Pupils for whom Carisbrooke College is not their nearest school.

If two applications tie: If there are more applicants than remaining places within any criterion, home-to-school distance is used as a tiebreaker (straight line via the Local Authority's GIS, centre of home building to centre of school building), with those living closer offered places first. If distances are tied and there are not enough places, a random allocation ('lucky dip') is carried out by the Local Authority, overseen by an independent person from the Corporate Governance team; twins/multiple-birth siblings are considered as one applicant in this process.

Children with an EHCP naming Carisbrooke College are automatically admitted in compliance with the School Admissions Code, and the number of such places is deducted from those available before the 7 numbered oversubscription criteria are applied; EHCP is not itself one of the numbered criteria.
