Medina College

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children in care / previously in care — Children who are in the care of a local authority or children who were previously in care but immediately after being in care became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order.
2. 2Specific medical condition — Pupils with a specific medical condition, confirmed by a consultant paediatrician or similar health professional, which makes Medina College the most appropriate school. Must be supported by independent evidence at the time of application.
3. 3Nearest school and elder sibling — Pupils for whom Medina College is their nearest school who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister) who is already at the school and will still be in attendance in September 2027.
4. 4Children of staff — Children of staff who have been employed at Medina College for two or more years at the time of application, or have been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. 'Staff' includes all those on the payroll; 'children of staff' means the staff member is the natural parent, legal guardian or resident step-parent.
5. 5Nearest school — Other pupils for whom Medina College is their nearest school.
6. 6Not nearest school, elder sibling — Pupils for whom Medina College is not their nearest school who, at the time of application, have an elder sibling (brother or sister) who is already at the school and will still be in attendance in September 2027.
7. 7Not nearest school — Pupils for whom Medina College is not their nearest school.

If two applications tie: If there are more applicants than remaining places within any criterion, home-to-school distance is used, measured in a straight line using the Local Authority's GIS from the centre of the home address building to the centre of the school building, with those living closest given higher priority. Where distance is still tied, random allocation ('lucky dip') is carried out by the Local Authority, overseen by an independent person from the Corporate Governance team; twins or children from multiple births are considered as one applicant in random allocation.

Children with an EHCP naming Medina College are automatically admitted and deducted from available places before these criteria are applied; not numbered within the 1-7 list so not included as a criterion. Applicants who apply after the published closing date have lower priority for admission than those who apply on time.
