Distance depends on the band here
Trinity Academy Halifax admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Admissions will be Fair Banded. Applicants who sit the fair banding assessment will be considered for admission first. All applicants are invited to take a non-verbal reasoning assessment to divide them into 4 ability bands. Places are admitted from each band based on the spread of ability of those applying, to ensure the 330 places reflect the ability range of applicants. Any applicants who choose not to sit the Fair Banding Assessment will be 'non-banded' and will be ranked in order of priority after all of the banded applicants, with the level of priority then determined with reference to the oversubscription criteria.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: If there is an oversubscription in any category, students will be admitted in order of proximity to TAH using a straight-line measurement from the student's home to the main academy gate, calculated using the Local Authority's GIS system. Random allocation (undertaken by the local authority or any other body unconnected to TAH) will be used as a tie-break to decide who has the highest priority for admission if the distance between a child's home and the academy is equidistant in any individual case.
The oversubscription criteria apply within each band. Applicants who sit the Fair Banding Assessment are considered for admission first; non-banded applicants are ranked after all banded applicants. Children of multiple births tied for the final place will be admitted over PAN. Looked after children, previously looked after children, and those with an EHCP who do not take the assessment will be allocated to the appropriate band based on an alternative appropriate assessment.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
