When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After and Previously Looked After Children — Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children for whom the school is deemed to be appropriate. A "looked after child" has the same meaning as in section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989, and means any child who is (a) in the care of the local authority or (b) being provided with accommodation by them in the exercise of their social services functions (e.g. children with foster parents) at the time of making the application to the school. A "previously looked after child" is a child who immediately moved on from that status after becoming subject to an adoption, child arrangement order or special guardianship order and includes those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state case as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Feeder school pupils — Students from our "feeder" schools, Honeywell, Oldbury Park, Pitmaston, St Clement's CE, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Hallow and Rushwick primary schools.
3. 3Siblings of current students — Siblings of current students.
4. 4Children of staff — Children of all staff currently employed by Christopher Whitehead Language College.
5. 5Catchment area – closest by distance — Children living within the catchment area of our school who live closest to the school by the shortest straight line distance. This measurement will be taken by using Geocode points for each property and the Geocode for the centre of the school. The Local Authority software package Arcview GIS can be used in the event of a disputed admission. (In the event of equi-distance applicants, places will be allocated by random selection. Someone totally independent of the school will supervise this process.)
6. 6Outside catchment – siblings — Children living outside the catchment area of our school who at the time of application have a brother or sister (including children living as siblings/stepchildren in the same family unit) on the roll at the school and who will still be on roll at the time of the sibling's admission.
7. 7Outside catchment – feeder school pupils — Children living outside the catchment area of our school who, at the time of application, attend one of the named "feeder" primary schools.
8. 8Outside catchment – closest by distance — Children living outside the catchment area of the school who live closest to the school, based on the same LA measurement system as described in 5 above.

If two applications tie: In the event of equi-distance applicants, places will be allocated by random selection. Someone totally independent of the school will supervise this process.

Children whose EHCP names the school are automatically allocated a place before oversubscription criteria apply. Sixth form has a separate PAN of 25 external applicants minimum, with its own oversubscription criteria. Multiple birth/same cohort sibling exception applies at the PAN boundary.
