- How are Reception places decided at Springfield Primary Academy?
- When Springfield Primary Academy has more applications than places for 2027-28, they are offered in a published order of priority: 1. Looked after and previously looked after children — A ‘looked after child’ or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order including those who appear (to the admissions authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22 (1) of the Children Act 1989); 2. Siblings — Priority will next be given to children with siblings at the school (in Reception to Year 6) at the point of admission. Siblings include step siblings, foster siblings and adopted siblings living at the same address. Priority will not be given to children with siblings who are former pupils of the school at the time of admission; 3. Early Years Pupil Premium in academy nursery — Pupils who are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium and are in a nursery class which is part of the academy. This is applicable to all academies outlined in 7.1 with the exception of Keelby and Laceby Acres Primary Academies. Admission authorities may give priority in their oversubscription criteria to children eligible for the early years pupil premium, the pupil premium, or the service premium who: a) are in a nursery class which is part of the school; or b) attend a nursery that is established and run by the school. The nursery must be named in the admission arrangements and its selection must be transparent and made on reasonable grounds, and 3 further criteria. The school offers 45 places at this entry point. Tie-break: In the case of 2 or more applications that cannot be separated by the oversubscription criteria outlined above, the school will use the distance between the school and a child’s home as a tie breaker to decide between applicants. Priority will be given to children who live closest to the school. Distance will be measured as outlined above in criterion 5. A child’s home address will be considered to be where he/she is resident for the majority of nights in a normal school week. Where the distance between 2 children’s homes and the school is the same, random allocation will be used to decide between them. This process will be independently verified.
