Distance depends on the band here
St Aloysius' College admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: In order to establish a balanced intake across the ability range and thereby preserve the College's comprehensive character, all applicants will be required to take part in a Standardised Assessment test (CAT) at the College in order to place them into one of 4 different ability bands... Band 1: 110 and above; Band 2: 101-109; Band 3: 91-100; Band 4: 90 and below. Offers will be made on the basis of 25% from each band.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Priority will be given to children living closest to the College determined by the shortest distance. Closeness to the College is measured in a straight line ('as the crow flies') from the permanent address at which the applicant normally resides at the time of the application to the centre of the school grounds (the centre is marked by the statue by the steps in the playground). In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out and supervised by a person independent of the College.
Provisions apply within each category for exceptional social/medical/pastoral need, sibling attendance, and Music Scholarship priority, in that order, before the tie-break is used. Notes 1-12 form part of the oversubscription criteria.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
