Distance depends on the band here
City of London Academy, Highgate Hill admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Children applying to the Academy will be required to take a non-verbal reasoning test. They will be given two opportunities to do so. Applicants will be placed in one of four bands based on their performance in the test. Approximately the same number of children will be admitted in each of the four bands so that each band represents 25% of the applicants. Children admitted with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) are included in the band allocations.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Distance will be used as a tiebreaker for criteria 1, 2 and 3. If only one place is available and two or more children qualify for that place, the child who is offered the place will be determined by random allocation using Islington LA's computerised system.
Oversubscription criteria are applied within each of four ability bands (each representing 25% of applicants), based on a non-verbal reasoning test. Multiple births: if only one place is available and the next qualifying child is one of multiple birth siblings, the academy will admit all other multiple birth siblings as excepted pupils above PAN.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
