When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children — Looked After Children (Children in Public Care) – A Looked After Child is a child who is in care to a local authority or who is provided with accommodation by that authority and will still be looked after when, at the time an application for their admission to the School is made and who the local authority has confirmed, will still be looked after at the time when the child is admitted to the School. A letter from the Children's Services Department confirming the child’s status must be provided. Children placed by the Local Authority by a kinship or residency order are NOT classed as Looked After Children.
2. 2Autistic Spectrum Condition (ARP) — Children who have an Autistic Spectrum Condition for whom placement at Clarion is deemed by the London Borough of Barnet and the school to be appropriate. The Autistic Resource Provision (ARP) offers provision for a maximum of 35 students across five years, with 7 students admitted into each year group.
3. 3Siblings — Siblings – A sibling refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child of the parent/carer’s partner, and in every case, the child should be living in the same family unit at the same address. The elder sibling must still be on roll at this School when the younger child starts School.
4. 4Children of staff — Sons and daughters of members of staff (teaching and support staff) who have been employed for two years or more at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made.
5. 5Proximity — Proximity – Any remaining places (up to 150) will be offered in accordance with the distance measured (in a straight line/by the shortest walking route) from the front door of the child’s permanent home address (at the time of the closing date for applications to the school) to the main front entrance of the school. Where parents have shared responsibility for a child following the breakdown of their relationship and the child lives for part of the week with each parent, the closer of the two addresses will apply under this criterion.

If two applications tie: If the school is oversubscribed within any of the above categories the straight-line distance from the child’s home address to the school will be used as the determining factor. If two or more children with the same priority for admission live an indistinguishable distance from the preferred school, but cannot all be admitted then the available places will be decided by means of casting lots.

Sixth Form admissions have a separate ordered criteria list: 1. Looked after children; 2. Students who attended a Barnet School in Years 7-11 without a Sixth Form; 3. Sons and daughters of staff; 4. Remaining places offered per main school geographical criteria.
