Archbishop Tenison's CofE High School

When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) — The Governors will admit all those pupils whose EHCP names the School
2. 2Looked After and Previously Looked After Children — The highest priority is given to Looked After and Previously Looked After Children – with supporting evidence from their Local Authority
3. 3Exceptional and professionally supported medical or social need — This must be supported by written evidence at the time of application, e.g. from a specialist health professional, social worker or other care professional. The evidence must set out the reasons why this school is the most suitable school and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another school.
4. 4Children of Staff — Children of staff include full, step, half, adopted and fostered children living in the same household as the member of staff employed by the school on a permanent full-time or fractional contract in either of the following circumstances: (i) The member of staff has been employed for two years or more before the admission application and is still employed, without having given notice or been given notice that the employment will end, at the time the offer is made. (ii) The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant teaching post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage
5. 5Foundation Places – Siblings — Siblings of pupils who will be attending the School, including the Sixth Form, at the time of the proposed admission.
6. 6Foundation Places – Weekly church worship with active involvement — Children who attend church worship weekly with the named parent or carer and whose named parent or carer is actively involved with them in church life. "Actively involved" indicates that this activity is likely to be frequent (at least fortnightly), well established (for at least 1 year) and to carry with it some responsibility within the church.
7. 7Foundation Places – Fortnightly church worship with active involvement — Children who attend church worship fortnightly with the named parent or carer and whose named parent or carer is actively involved with them in church life. "Actively involved" indicates that this activity is likely to be frequent (fortnightly), well established (for at least 1 year) and carry with it some responsibility within the church.
8. 8Foundation Places – Less frequent church worship with some involvement — Children who attend church worship weekly, fortnightly or less frequently with the named parent or carer and whose named parent or carer has some involvement with them in church life. "Some involvement" indicates that this activity is likely to be less frequent (monthly), less well established (for less than a year) and more passive (e.g. attending a meeting).
9. 9Foundation Places – Any church attendance — Children who attend church with the named parent or carer.
10. 10Open Places – Feeder Schools Siblings — Siblings of pupils who will be attending the School, including the Sixth Form, at the time of the proposed admission.
11. 11Open Places – Feeder Schools Distance — Remaining places will be allocated in strict rotation between applications for children from the feeder schools. Where the number of applications from a school exceeds the places allocated to that school then places will be offered according to the nearness of the home to the school within the area defined in Section 3.
12. 12Open Places – Local Places Siblings — Siblings of pupils who will be attending the School, including the Sixth Form, at the time of the proposed admission.
13. 13Open Places – Local Places Distance — The nearness of the home to the school within the area defined in Section 3.

If two applications tie: Where the distance is identical for two or more applicants, the drawing of lots is used as a final arbiter. This will be independently verified.

50% of places are Foundation Places (based on church membership); 50% are Open Places (25% reserved for feeder schools, 25% for local places). Applicants must live within the Archdeaconry of Croydon and the Deanery of Sutton for priority consideration. Foundation Place applicants and Open Place Feeder School applicants must complete a Supplementary Information Form (SIF). Governors may allocate a small number of places on compassionate grounds. Fair Access Protocol applicants are admitted irrespective of oversubscription criteria.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
