Distance depends on the band here
Harris Invictus Academy Croydon admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: The Academy uses banding in Year 7. All children for whom a place is sought (including looked after and previously looked after children and children with an EHC plan) take a non-verbal reasoning test standardised against the national distribution of abilities. The test has no pass or fail mark; children are ranked and allocated to one of nine bands from highest to lowest ability, with places per band set by applying national percentages to the places available within the PAN. Oversubscription criteria are applied within each band. Spare places in a band go to adjacent bands, lower ability band first, then alternating. Banding does not apply to in-year admission or to Year 12.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Distance between the child's home address and the Academy, with those living nearest receiving highest priority. Distance is measured using the London Borough of Croydon's computerised geographic information system (GIS) in a straight line from the child's home address to the designated entrance of the Academy, using NLPG geographical reference points. For multi-dwelling buildings the same reference point is used for all children living there. Where two or more children live an equal distance away, order is determined by random allocation supervised by someone independent of the Academy.
Determined admission policy for the September 2027 intake. Admission authority is Harris Federation, delegated to the Academy's Governing Body/Admission Committee. Year 7 application deadline 31 October 2026; National Offer Day 1 March 2027. Year 12 PAN for external candidates is 30.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
