Newton Village Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2025-26 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Children looked after and who were previously looked after, including those previously looked after outside England i.e. in public care, giving priority, if necessary, to the youngest child(ren) - see Note 1.
2. 2Children of staff — Children of staff employed by Newton Village Academy, on a permanent contract of 0.6 FTE or above for two or more years, at the time when their application for a school place is made or a staff member who has been recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a skill shortage.
3. 3Nursery attendees with siblings at school — Children who are attending Newton Village Academy Nursery class at the time the application is being made who have brothers or sisters in the school at the time of admission. See note 2, 3 & 4
4. 4Nursery attendees — Children who are attending Newton Village Academy Nursery class at the time the application is being made. See note 3 & 4
5. 5Catchment area children with siblings — Children living in the catchment area who have brothers or sisters in the school at the time of admission - see Note 2.
6. 6Catchment area children by distance — Children living in the catchment area giving priority to those living closest to the school, measured by a straight line between the centre of the pupil's home address and the school's main front entrance - see Note 3.
7. 7Out of catchment children with siblings — Children living outside the catchment area who, at the time of their admission, have brothers or sisters in the school – see Note 2.
8. 8Out of catchment children by distance — Children living outside the catchment area, giving priority to those who live closest to the school, measured by a straight line between the centre of the pupil's home address and the school's main front entrance – see Note 3.

If two applications tie: Straight-line distance between the centre of the pupil's home address and the school's main front entrance, measured by the LA's GIS.

EHCP naming the school is an exception to the oversubscription criteria and takes priority. Within criterion 3, priority is given to youngest siblings. Within criteria 4 and 6, distance measurement is used as tie-breaker. Within criterion 5 (Note 4), priority given to youngest siblings unless siblings are in same year group, in which case distance is used.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
