Distance depends on the band here
Chestnut Grove Academy admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Every applicant must sit the Wandsworth Test, including those applying for a specialist place, and is placed in one of five ability bands on their score (Band A the top 20%, Band B the next 20%, and so on). An equal number is admitted from each band; where the places do not divide by five an extra place is allocated in one or more bands, and where a band has too few applicants the places go alternately to adjacent bands. A child who does not sit the test is allocated to a band at random. The criteria below are applied within each band. Separately, up to 30 places are offered for aptitude in Art and Design and up to 30 for aptitude in Modern Foreign Languages, assessed on an Aptitude Assessment Day; applicants must list the academy on the council form and complete the specialist application form. This is banding for a comprehensive intake plus limited aptitude selection, not general academic selection.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Geographical proximity, measured in a straight line to the centre of the academy site by Wandsworth’s geographic information system. Applicants living the same distance away are ranked randomly.
The academy is its own admission authority, so these rules are set by the school rather than by Wandsworth Council, though it works within the council’s co-ordinated procedures. It admits 210 students into Year 7. A waiting list is kept for each band separately until 1 September. Note on the document: the policy’s own version field reads "Final – 2026-27" and its content is unchanged from that year, but Wandsworth publishes it in its 2027-28 set, so it is recorded here against the round the council published it for.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
