was the furthest place offered for 2023-24 (Year 7) — but among children who had already met the entrance standard. Entry here depends on the assessment first; distance only separates candidates who qualify. Living inside that distance is not enough on its own, and living beyond it is not necessarily a bar.
Last distance offered at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: 8.8 Random allocation will be used as a tiebreak to decide who has the highest priority for admission where the qualifying score and the distance between two applicants' homes and the School is the same.
Where the number of applicants qualifying for admission exceeds the number of places available in any category (following ranking by score), priority is given to the candidate(s) whose home address lies closest to the school (straight-line distance using Local Land and Property Gazetteer co-ordinates). Applicants must have a date of birth between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
