When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children / Previously Looked After Children — Children in public care (Looked After Children) and Previously Looked After Children as defined by section 1.7 of the School Admissions Code 2021 – see Explanatory Note 1.
2. 2Child Protection Plan — Children subject to a Child Protection Plan.
3. 3Sibling — Children who have a brother or sister already on the roll of the school who will continue to attend that school for the following year – see Explanatory Note 2.
4. 4Catchment + Staff — Children who live within the school’s designated catchment area and are children of qualified teaching staff employed at the school for two or more years at the time of application and/or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage – see Explanatory Note 3 for catchment definition and Explanatory Note 4 for staff definition.
5. 5Other catchment area children — Other children living within the school’s designated catchment area.
6. 6Wordsworth Primary School only – Early Years Pupil Premium nursery children — Wordsworth Primary School only: Children who are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium who are in the school’s nursery class.
7. 7Out-of-catchment staff children — Children who live outside the school’s designated catchment area and are children of qualified teaching staff employed at the school for two or more years at the time of application and/or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage - see Explanatory Note 3 for catchment definition and Explanatory Note 4 for staff definition.
8. 8Other children outside catchment area — Other children living outside the school’s designated catchment area.

If two applications tie: If the school is oversubscribed from within any of the criteria, then distance, as defined in Explanatory Note 5 will be used to prioritise applications. Should there be two or more identical distances requiring prioritisation, this will be done by drawing lots. Lots will be drawn by the Trust Independent Admissions Consultant.

This policy applies to multiple Hamwic Education Trust schools listed with individual PANs (Glenfield Infant School 60, Harefield Primary School 60, Hollybrook Infant School 60, Ludlow Infant Academy 90, Shirley Infant School 90, Sholing Infant School 90, Thornhill Primary School 30, Townhill Infant School 60, Weston Park Primary School 60, Weston Shore Infant School 30, Woolston Infant School 60, Wordsworth Primary School 60 (reduced from 90 for Sep 26 and Sep 27)). Criterion 6 applies only to Wordsworth Primary School. Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school are admitted outside the normal admissions round under the Education Act 1996 and count within the PAN.
