When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 12), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Places in each over-subscribed area will then be allocated randomly, with all processes of random allocation supervised by someone independent of the UTC.
Year 12 total capacity is 160 places; the UTC's own Year 11 students who meet entry requirements have automatic right of transfer, with a minimum of 60 places (PAN) reserved for new external applicants, more if fewer Year 11 students transfer. Students apply for one of two specialisms (Engineering & Manufacturing – 120 places; Creative & Digital Media – 40 places), with up to an additional 15% transferable between specialisms if one is undersubscribed. Eight postcode districts each have a percentage share of external places (19%,10%,21%,10%,10%,12%,11%,7%) before unfilled places are redistributed.
