A previously looked after child is one who was adopted, or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order, immediately after being looked after, and includes children who appear to the admission authority to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be so as a result of being adopted; 2. Siblings — A brother or sister attending the school when the child starts. Brother or sister means a child who lives as a brother or sister in the same house, including natural, adopted, step and foster siblings; 3. Health and special access reasons — Medical, health, social and special access reasons, applied in accordance with the school’s legal obligations and in particular the Equality Act 2010. Priority is given where a child’s mental or physical impairment means they have a demonstrable and significant need to attend this school, and equally where a parent’s or guardian’s physical or mental health or social needs create that need. Claims must be supported by written evidence from a suitably qualified medical or other practitioner who can demonstrate a special connection between the need and this school, and 2 further criteria. The school offers 60 places at this entry point. Tie-break: Nearness of the child’s home to the school, measured in a straight line using NLPG address points as set out in the final criterion.

How places are decided at Pilgrims' Way Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked after and previously looked after children — A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of its social services functions (Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989) at the time of application. 2Siblings — A brother or sister attending the school when the child starts. Brother or sister means a child who lives as a brother or sister in the same house, including natural, adopted, step and foster siblings.
3Health and special access reasons — Medical, health, social and special access reasons, applied in accordance with the school’s legal obligations and in particular the Equality Act 2010. Priority is given where a child’s mental or physical impairment means they have a demonstrable and significant need to attend this school, and equally where a parent’s or guardian’s physical or mental health or social needs create that need. Claims must be supported by written evidence from a suitably qualified medical or other practitioner who can demonstrate a special connection between the need and this school.
4Children of staff — Children whose parents work as permanent staff members at the school, where the member of staff is employed at the school at the time the application is made, and/or was recruited to the Trust to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
5Nearness of the child’s home to the school — The distance between the child’s permanent home address (as defined in Kent County Council’s annual admissions prospectus) and the school, measured in a straight line using National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address points, from a point within the home to the same fixed point on the school site for every applicant. Where a property is not registered on the NLPG, including new build, KCC may use planning-site or other relevant co-ordinates; in exceptional cases a Senior Admissions Officer determines the measurement, confirmed by the Head of Service.

If two applications tie: Nearness of the child’s home to the school, measured in a straight line using NLPG address points as set out in the final criterion.

Veritas Multi Academy Trust is the admission authority for this school, so these rules are set by the trust rather than by Kent County Council. Children whose education, health and care plan names the school are admitted before any other places are allocated, which reduces the number left. Attending a trust nursery does not carry a Reception place — a separate application is still needed. Kent County Council measures the distance on the school’s behalf.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
