Distance depends on the band here
St. Thomas More Language College admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: The admission authority intends to admit the school's Published Admission Number (PAN) of 120 pupils in Year 7 each school year and, in doing so, will endeavour to preserve its comprehensive character by establishing a balanced intake across the ability range in the ratio 25:50:25 meaning 25% upper ability, 50% middle ability and 25% lower ability. This will be achieved by the use of standardised verbal and nonverbal tests.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
How places were offered at St. Thomas More Language College, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Then others by means of a lottery which will take place in front of an independent witness – all applicants are randomly selected via a tombola method and numbered in order of selection, the first applicant to be selected will precede the other applicant(s).
Within each numbered oversubscription criterion (1-6), if oversubscribed, the Governors will first allocate places using sub-priorities in this order: (a) exceptional social, medical or pastoral need supported by professional evidence; (b) sibling on roll or in current Year 11 at time of applying; (c) children attending named SJSCAT primary schools; (d) children of staff employed at the school for two or more years; (e) random lottery via tombola method.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
