When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Where the offer of places to all applicants in any of the categories or subcategories listed above would lead to oversubscription the places up to the admissions number within that category or sub category will be offered to those living nearest the School. The home to school distance will be measured using the home-school measurement system used by Hertfordshire County Council. Where there is a need for a tie break where two different addresses are the same distance from the school, in the case of a block of flats for example, the lower door number will be deemed nearest as logically this will be on the ground floor and therefore closer. If there are two identical measurements of separate applicants, the tie break will be random. Every child entered onto the HCC admissions data base has an individual random number assigned, between 1 and 1 million, against each preference school. When there is a need for a final tie break the random number is used to allocate the place, with the lowest number given priority.
Within each category, priority is further ordered by: (i) sibling at school AND attends feeder primary; (ii) sibling at school but no feeder primary; (iii) feeder primary but no sibling; (iv) children of staff employed 2+ years; (v) no feeder primary and no sibling. Top priority within any category given where compelling evidence of exceptional social, medical or pastoral need is provided at time of application. Twins/triplets: if one is offered a place, the other will also be offered even if PAN is exceeded.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
