Distance depends on the band here
Leigh Academy Blackheath admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: Applicants who have undertaken the fair banding test are split into 5 equally sized bands based on test results, to ensure a broad range of abilities is admitted. If the number of applicants is not divisible by five: 1 extra applicant → additional applicant in Band 2; 2 extra → one in Band 3 and one in Band 4; 3 extra → one in Band 5, one in Band 1 and one in Band 2; 4 extra → one in Bands 2,3,4 and 5 respectively. If two children score the same, academy priority criteria are used to decide which band each goes in.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: If the academy is oversubscribed and it is necessary to use a tie-breaker to distinguish between two or more applications in any of criteria 1-6, a distance criterion will be used as in criterion 5. If two or more students have equal eligibility for the last place, names will be issued a number and drawn randomly, overseen by someone independent of the academy trust.
Before application of oversubscription criteria, children with an EHCP naming Leigh Academy Blackheath are admitted and the PAN reduced accordingly. Fair Access Protocol vulnerable children take precedence over waiting list.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
