When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked After Children and previously looked after children (as defined in the Secondary Education in Essex 2027/2028 booklet).
2. 2Sibling link — A child with a sibling on roll at the time of application. Siblings include a brother or sister who share the same parents; a half-brother, half- sister or legally adopted child living at the same address; a child looked after by a local authority placed in a foster family with other school age children; a stepchild or children who are not related but live as a family unit, where parents both live at the same address as the child.
3. 3Children of staff — Children of any staff member at the school: a) where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or b) the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the school for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
4. 4Distance from the school — The distance from the child’s permanent home address to the school. Priority will be given to the child living nearest the school. Straight line distances are calculated by the LA as described booklet. In the event of over subscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by the straight-line distance from home to school, those living closest being given highest priority.
