Distance depends on the band here
Harris City Academy Crystal Palace admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: All children for whom a place is sought in Year 7 sit a non-verbal reasoning test standardised against the national distribution of abilities. The test has no pass or fail mark; children are ranked and placed into one of nine bands from highest to lowest ability, with the number of places per band set by applying national percentages to the places available within the PAN excluding the 18 aptitude places. Oversubscription criteria are applied within each band. Spare places in a band go to adjacent bands, lower ability band first, then alternating.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Where there are more applications than places available within any band or oversubscription category, the order in which places are allocated is determined by random allocation supervised by someone independent of the Academy. Places are not allocated by reference to exact distance (other than determining catchment).
Admission policy for the September 2026 intake. Admission authority is Harris Federation, delegated to the Academy's Admission Committee. Up to 10% of places (18) allocated on aptitude for technology via a Technology Aptitude Test. Year 12 PAN for external candidates is 50.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
