When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Within each category, first priority will be given to: i. Those who fully satisfy the criterion, but also have a brother or sister already in attendance at the school. ii. Those who fully satisfy the criterion, and the proximity of the family home to the school. (For Open Place categories) Within those categories the proximity of the family home to the school will (where necessary) be used to determine the allocation.
The school operates two admission quotas: 160 Foundation Places and 80 Open Places (total 240). Foundation Place applicants must provide a completed clergy/minister/faith leader reference confirming frequency and nature of worship; an application is not considered complete until this reference is returned, and references not returned will not be pursued. 'Active and practising' requires attendance at a place of worship at least monthly for at least two years; attendance solely via a Church in Wales Primary School does not satisfy this definition. Evidence of educational, social or medical need must be provided via a personal statement (Foundation) or professional written evidence (Open) dated no more than six months prior to application, addressing specific difficulties, suitability of St Teilo's, and difficulties of attending another school. Only one application per child is accepted; the latest submitted before the deadline is considered, and multiple applications result in all previous ones being disregarded. Applicants must accept or refuse an offered place immediately. Reapplication after refusal and an unsuccessful appeal is not permitted. A waiting list ('pool') operates for unsuccessful applicants, with places offered by the Admission Panel according to the admission criteria. Appeals must be lodged in writing within 10 working days of the offer/refusal email, and are heard by an independent Appeals Panel, normally in the Summer Term. Parents are advised to also apply to four other schools.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
