How places are decided at Lantern Community Primary School

When there are more applications than places for 2025-26 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Children in Care and previously looked after children — Children in Care, also known as Looked After Children (LAC) and children who were previously looked after but ceased to be so by reason of adoption (now known as a child arrangement order), or a Special Guardianship. Children in Care (CIC) and children who appear to the Admission Authority to have been in state care, (i.e. in the care of or accommodated by a public authority, religious organisation or any other provider whose sole/main purpose is to benefit society) outside of England but ceased to be so as a result of being adopted only.
2Catchment area with sibling — Children who live in the catchment area with a sibling at the school at the time of admission.
3Catchment area — Children living in the catchment area.
4Outside catchment area with sibling — Children living outside of the catchment area who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission.
5Outside catchment, unable to gain place at catchment school — Children living outside of the catchment area who have applied and been unable to gain a place at their Cambridgeshire catchment area school because of oversubscription.
6Outside catchment, nearest to school — Children who live outside the catchment area, but nearest the school as measured by a straight line.

If two applications tie: Priority will go to children living nearest the school as measured by a straight line from the front door of the child's home address to the front door of the school. Distances are measured using the council's Geographic Information System (GIS) using a straight line.

EHCP children naming the school are admitted before oversubscription criteria apply. Sibling defined as brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, stepbrother or sister, or the child of the parent/carer's partner, with child primarily resident in same family unit at same address.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
