Ombersley Endowed First School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — ‘Looked after’ and previously ‘Looked after’ children. ‘Looked after’ means all those currently in the care of or accommodated by a Local Authority under the terms of the Children Act 1989 and children who were previously in the care of or accommodated by a Local Authority but immediately after being looked after, became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order. looked after children and all previously looked after children including those who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. Or such evidence that demonstrates a child was in state care outside of England prior to being adopted
2. 2Siblings attending the school and living in catchment — Siblings (see below for definition) of pupils attending the school and living within the catchment area of the school. In order to qualify for a place on the grounds of a sibling attending the school, the sibling must already be attending the school at the time of application or attended the school within the past three academic years. Copies of catchment area maps, if required are available from the LA, or can be viewed in schools. In the event of a school catchment area change being approved, pupils who would still have a sibling connection (see below for definition) at the time of admission and who are living at the same address in the previous catchment area for a school, (but not within the revised catchment area), at the time the change was approved will be considered as living within the catchment area.
3. 3Pupils living within the catchment area — Pupils living within the catchment area of the school. Copies of catchment area maps, if required are available from the LA, or can be viewed in school.
4. 4Siblings outside catchment — Pupils living outside of the catchment area but who would still have a sibling connection (see below for definition) at school at the time of admission. In order to qualify for a place on the grounds of a sibling attending the school, the sibling must already be attending the school at the time of application or have attended in the previous three academic years.
5. 5Significant medical, social or compassionate reasons — Pupils who have a significant reason for admission, such reasons, the validity of which will be determined by the Governing Body, will include medical, social or compassionate grounds. To be considered under this category it has to be shown that only this school can meet the medical, social or compassionate needs. Parents/carers are required to produce a medical certificate or other appropriate information from an independent source. (Significant reasons will not be considered unless supporting information is attached to your application form when submitted);
6. 6Children of staff — Children of Staff: Children of any member of staff employed at the mainstream school in either of the following circumstances: a) Where that member of staff has been employed for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission is made, or b) the member of staff is recruited to fill a post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage;
7. 7Nearest by straight line distance — pupils who live nearest to the school by the shortest straight line distance. Straight Line Distance The measurement will be taken using the GeoCode Points for each property and the GeoCode point for the School. The Local Authority uses a software package called Arcview GIS to determine distance. Ordnance Survey supplies the co-ordinates that are used to plot an address within this system. (In the event of equi-distance applicants, any place will be allocated by random selection (lottery). Legal And Democratic Services, who are totally independent of School Admissions will supervise this process)

If two applications tie: In the event of equi-distance applicants, any place will be allocated by random selection (lottery), supervised by Legal and Democratic Services who are totally independent of School Admissions.

A child with an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP) naming the school will be offered a place; this sits above the ranked oversubscription criteria. Multiple birth siblings: school will admit all children from a multiple birth even if it breaches PAN, provided no breach of infant class size legislation. Waiting lists maintained as described; in-year admissions follow same criteria. CATCHMENT: Siblings (see below for definition) of pupils attending the school and living within the catchment area of the school... Pupils living within the catchment area of the school. Transcribed from the school's own determined admission arrangements as published by Worcestershire County Council. Children with an EHCP naming the school are admitted first; that is a statutory duty, not an oversubscription criterion.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
