Emmbrook Junior School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 3), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children and previously looked after children — Looked After Children and all previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order) immediately following having been looked after. This also includes children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Medical or social need — Children who have a medical or social need as the grounds for their admission to Emmbrook Junior School (see notes). An additional form will need to be completed.
3. 3Attending Emmbrook Infant School — Children who are attending Emmbrook Infant School by the deadline for applications.
4. 4Children of staff — The children of staff at Emmbrook Junior School, where that member of staff is the legal parent and guardian of that child, has a permanent contract to work at a school within Emmbrook Junior School and where that member of staff has been employed at the school for 2 or more years at the time of application for the place or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post within Emmbrook Junior School where there is a demonstrable skill shortage. This criterion applies to both teaching and non-teaching groups of staff that meet one or both of the above definitions.
5. 5Sibling — Children who have a sibling who will be attending the school or Emmbrook Infant School when the child will enter the school (see notes).
6. 6Designated area — Children whose permanent home address is within the schools designated area.
7. 7Any other children — Any other children.

If two applications tie: Priority will be given within any of the above oversubscription criteria to the applicant whose permanent home address is nearest to Emmbrook Junior School in terms of radial (straight line) distance. In the unlikely event that two or more children live at the same distance or additional distance from school (including, for example, flats within the same building), and there are fewer places available, random allocation will be used to decide which child will be allocated the remaining place(s). This will be by supervised drawing of lots, carried out by someone independent of the school.

The document contains two separate sets of criteria: one for the normal admissions round (Year 3 September 2027, criteria A–G) and one for in-year admissions (criteria A–F, which omits the 'attending Emmbrook Infant School' criterion and has a different ordering for staff vs sibling). The criteria listed here are from the main normal admissions round. There is no automatic transfer from Emmbrook Infant School to Emmbrook Junior School; parents must apply.
