How places are decided at Rosedale Church of England C Infant School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Children and young people in care, and previous children and young people in care — Children who at the time of application are in the care of a local authority or being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of its social services functions; and children who ceased to be looked after through adoption, a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order, and children who appear to a local authority to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be so because of being adopted.
2Sibling at the school or paired junior school — Children with a sibling in attendance at the school, or at the paired junior school, when the application is submitted and who will still be attending at the proposed admission date. A sibling is a child resident at the same address who is a brother or sister sharing the same parents, a half-brother or sister sharing one common parent, a step-brother or sister, or any other child shown to be residing permanently at the same address.
3Medical or social grounds — Pupils for whom a place at the school is essential on medical or social grounds, supported in writing by a medical practitioner or a social worker. Evidence must state why the preferred school is the only school that can meet the child’s needs. Applications are subject to verification by the Admissions & Education Sufficiency Service Manager. Priority is given only in very exceptional cases.
4Church places (voluntary controlled Church of England primary schools only) — Up to 25% of places may be allocated as ‘Church Places’, regardless of distance, to children whose parents are regular worshippers at a Christian church and whose application is supported in writing by the minister of the church where they worship. A regular worshipper attends a place of worship at least once a month over the past twelve months. The number of Church Places is set by the admission number: 7 places where the admission number is 30, 11 where it is 45, 15 where it is 60 and 22 where it is 90. Where Church Places are oversubscribed, priority goes to those living closest to the school measured in a straight line. A supplementary information form is required.
5Distance between home address and school — Distance measured in a straight line from the centre point of the home address to the centre point of the school address using the local authority’s computerised measuring system, with those living closer to the school receiving the higher priority.

If two applications tie: Distance, measured in a straight line, decides between applicants who are otherwise equally placed.

Walsall Council numbers these criteria 1 to 6 in its determined arrangements; clause 4 applies to junior schools only and clause 5 to voluntary controlled Church of England primary schools only, so the ranks shown here are the order that applies to this school.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
