When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After / previously Looked After children — Children who are designated as ‘Looked After’ or previously ‘Looked After’.
2. 2Baptised Catholic children attending a Catholic Primary school — Baptised Catholic children who currently attend a Catholic Primary school.
3. 3Baptised Catholic children not attending a Catholic Primary school — Baptised Catholic children who do not attend a Catholic Primary school
4. 4Children from Church in Wales or other Faith schools in the Vale — Children who attend a Church in Wales primary school or another Faith school within the Vale of Glamorgan.
5. 5Sibling at St Richard Gwyn — Children who currently have a sibling at St Richard Gwyn (see note 2).
6. 6Other Christian denominations — Members of other Christian denominations not currently attending a Faith school within the Vale of Glamorgan.
7. 7Other faiths seeking faith education — Members of religious faiths, not defined as Christian wishing to receive a faith education and reside within the Vale of Glamorgan.
8. 8Any other children seeking faith education — Any other children whose parents seek a faith education at St Richard Gwyn.

If two applications tie: Where there are more applications from children within a criterion than the available capacity and the evidence requirements have been met, priority will be given to those children who reside closest to the school. This is decided by a proximity measure.

ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICATIONS. Additional evidence required per criterion includes: *School ethos contract to be completed by family/carers and pupil (criteria 2,3,4,5,6,7,8); Original baptismal certificate required (criterion 3); Christening (or other initiation) certificate (criteria 4 and 6, as printed); Priority given to those with a Supporting letter from a Faith leader (criterion 7). *Verified by St Richard Gwyn. The admission number is 210 with the proviso that this applies if the new school building is completed for moving in at the start of September 2025; if it isn't completed, the school will revert to its PAN of 163. Applications received from families of multiple birth children (twins, triplets etc) will be considered collectively against the oversubscription criteria, and the governing body will seek to ensure all such children are admitted to avoid family separation (note 2). In the event of oversubscription, applications will be placed on a waiting list until 30th September 2025. The closing date for applications was 22nd November 2024; late applications considered only if 'good reason' given per School Admissions Code No 005/2013, otherwise considered after those submitted before the closing date have been determined. Decision letters will be issued by 3rd March 2025 (Year 7). Governors will consider applications for admission into all year groups at any time, except Year 7 applications, which will be considered after 30th September. Appeals: parents may appeal to an independent panel appointed by the Diocese of Cardiff (independent of School and Local Authority); notice of intention to appeal should be sent to the Admissions Officer at the School, who will inform the Diocesan Office; appellants will be contacted directly with hearing details. Catchment area covers the whole of the Vale of Glamorgan; designated feeder schools are St Helen's, Barry and St Joseph's, Penarth.
