How are Year 7 places decided at Tomlinscote School?

When Tomlinscote School has more applications than places for 2027-28, they are offered in a published order of priority: 1. Looked after and previously looked after children — Children who are in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by a local authority (Section 22, Children Act 1989) at the time of application; children who have previously been in such care and left it through adoption, a child arrangements order or special guardianship order; and (from 1 September 2021) children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted; 2. Exceptional social or medical circumstances — A small number of children for whom exceptional social or medical circumstances apply, which may override other admissions priorities. Requires medical evidence from a consultant doctor (a GP letter is not normally sufficient) or, for social circumstances, documented evidence/reports (e.g. from Social Services); considered by a panel of the admissions authority. Applications for children with a disability but no EHCP are otherwise treated the same as all other applications unless evidenced under this priority; 3. Siblings — Children with a brother or sister (or half, adopted, fostered or step-sibling living as part of the same family unit at the same address, Monday to Friday) still on roll at Tomlinscote School at the time of the new sibling's admission, and 4 further criteria. The school offers 300 places at this entry point. Tie-break: Within any oversubscribed category, priority is given to those living closest to the school, measured in a straight line from the address point of the child's home to the nearest official school gate (Surrey County Council's Geographical Information System). Where two or more children share equal priority (e.g. equidistant), lots will be drawn.

How places are decided at Tomlinscote School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Looked after and previously looked after children — Children who are in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by a local authority (Section 22, Children Act 1989) at the time of application; children who have previously been in such care and left it through adoption, a child arrangements order or special guardianship order; and (from 1 September 2021) children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2Exceptional social or medical circumstances — A small number of children for whom exceptional social or medical circumstances apply, which may override other admissions priorities. Requires medical evidence from a consultant doctor (a GP letter is not normally sufficient) or, for social circumstances, documented evidence/reports (e.g. from Social Services); considered by a panel of the admissions authority. Applications for children with a disability but no EHCP are otherwise treated the same as all other applications unless evidenced under this priority.
3Siblings — Children with a brother or sister (or half, adopted, fostered or step-sibling living as part of the same family unit at the same address, Monday to Friday) still on roll at Tomlinscote School at the time of the new sibling's admission.
4Children of staff — Children of a member of staff who (i) has been employed by the WMAT for two or more years at the time of application and is a member of the Tomlinscote staff team, and/or (ii) has been recruited by the WMAT to fill a vacant post at Tomlinscote School for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage. The staff member should submit a Supplementary Information Form.
5Resident within the catchment area — Children resident within Tomlinscote School's fixed catchment area.
6Outside catchment, attending Frimley Church of England School — Children resident outside of the catchment area who currently attend Frimley Church of England School. There is no automatic transfer between schools.
7Outside catchment, not attending Frimley Church of England School — Children resident outside the catchment area who do not attend Frimley Church of England School.

If two applications tie: Within any oversubscribed category, priority is given to those living closest to the school, measured in a straight line from the address point of the child's home to the nearest official school gate (Surrey County Council's Geographical Information System). Where two or more children share equal priority (e.g. equidistant), lots will be drawn.

A child with an EHCP naming Tomlinscote School has priority for a place, and for the new intake the number of available places is reduced by the number of children with an EHCP naming the school; this is not one of the 7 numbered priorities. Tomlinscote School became an academy within the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT) from 1 April 2026, which is the admissions authority.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
