was the furthest place offered for 2025-26 (Year 7) — but among children who had already met the entrance standard. Entry here depends on the assessment first; distance only separates candidates who qualify. Living inside that distance is not enough on its own, and living beyond it is not necessarily a bar.
Last distance offered at St Joseph's College, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: If two or more children tie for the final place within a category, priority is given to the child living closest to the College (straight-line distance), measured between the front door of the applicant's home address and the front gate of the academy. If distance cannot separate applicants, a computerised random allocation will be used. Twins or siblings from a multiple birth may be offered places together even if this exceeds the admission number. In the event of oversubscription within categories 8-11, priority is given to children in receipt of Pupil Premium before the distance tie-breaker is applied.
Entry via entrance test requiring a score of 105; only those meeting this threshold proceed to Stage Two oversubscription criteria. Children with an EHC Plan naming the academy must be admitted if need can be met (Note 2) - this sits above oversubscription criteria and reduces places available. Pupil Premium status affects internal ranking within Catholic/non-Catholic groups as described. Transcribed from the school's own determined admission arrangements as published by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Children with an EHCP naming the school are admitted first; that is a statutory duty, not an oversubscription criterion.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
