Distance depends on the band here
Kingsdale Foundation School admits by banding: applicants are placed into bands and each band is filled separately, so there is no single last-offer distance. Each band has its own, and which one applies depends on your child's assessment — so one number could not answer this for every child.
How the bands work: In order to ensure that the intake to the School represents the full range of ability, the School will use Banding as part of its admission arrangements. An NFER CAT Banding test or similar standard(ised) assessment will be administered or used by Kingsdale Foundation School in order to determine an applicant's ability Band. To ensure ability Bands are of the same size (where possible), prior to the application of the random allocation process applicants will temporarily be organised in order of their assessment scores; this list will then be divided into 3 ability bands of equal size or to the nearest whole number (applicants who may be on a boundary will be placed in the most appropriate Band according to their assessment score). Where more than one candidate is on a boundary, positions will be assigned in alphabetical order.
Your local authority’s admissions booklet publishes the cut-off for each band. The full ranked criteria are on the Admissions tab.
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Random allocation within each ability band. This process will be supervised by a person not employed by and who is independent of the School (see Note 10). This criterion is also used as a tie breaker to differentiate between two equal applicants with respect to admission and oversubscription criteria i, ii, iii, iv & v in paragraph 2.1.
Applicants who do not satisfy scholarship criteria are placed into one of 3 ability bands according to assessment scores; after EHCP-named children are allocated places, places within each band are allocated in the order of priority i-vii listed above. Where places become vacant in a band and no applicants remain in that band, they are filled alternately by children in adjacent bands. Sixth Form (Year 12) has separate arrangements: capacity 200, PAN for external applicants is 40, with academic entry requirements by pathway (A Level, Technical, Transition).
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
