When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: In the event of pupils achieving the same mark for the last available place, priority is given first to any child entitled to 'preferential consideration'; then, if that does not differentiate, to the pupil living closest to the school by straight-line measurement (Local Authority's computerised system) from the home's front door to the nearest pupil entrance. If the same distance is shared and only one place is available, the place is awarded by computerised random allocation, supervised by someone independent of the Governing Body.
'Preferential consideration' = looked after/previously looked after children (also separately covered by rank 1) plus children in receipt of Free School Meals or the Pupil Premium Grant at the time of test registration; both groups must still pass the academic pass mark. A child who passes the tests and holds an EHCP naming the school is admitted before the PAN allocation to other applicants (children with an EHCP are otherwise handled under a separate statutory procedure, not this policy). Waiting lists by category run to 31 December.
