Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2024-25 (Reception), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
Last distance offered at St James' Catholic Primary School, Hebburn, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2026-27 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Where there are places available for some, but not all applicants within a particular criterion priority will be given to children living closest to the school determined by the shortest distance. Distance will be measured as a straight line, from the Ordnance Survey coordinates for the parental home residence (including flats) to the school main entrance, using South Tyneside Council's Geographic Information System (GIS). In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out in a public place and supervised by a person independent of the school.
Within each category: (i) exceptional social, medical or pastoral need places the child at the top of the category; (ii) sibling attendance places the child at the top of the category after (i). The admission authority will admit twins and all siblings from multiple births where one of the children is the last child ranked within the PAN where logistically possible.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
