Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2024-25 (Reception), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
How places were offered at St Alban's Catholic Primary School, Pelaw, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Where there are places available for some, but not all applicants within a particular criterion priority will be given to children living closest to the school determined by the shortest distance. Distance will be measured as the crow flies in a straight line from the centre of the home residence to the main entrance of the school, (using the Local Authority's computerised measuring system). In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out in a public place and supervised by a person independent of the school.
Within each of the categories listed above, two further provisions are applied in order before the tie break: (i) exceptional social, medical or pastoral need moves an application to the top of its category; (ii) attendance of a brother or sister at the school moves an application to the top of its category after (i). Twins and siblings from multiple births will, where logistically possible, be admitted together where one is the last child ranked within PAN.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
