Distance did not decide places here
Every applicant who applied on time was offered a place for 2024-25 (Reception), so there was no cut-off distance. This changes from year to year; check the current year's figures before relying on it.
How places were offered at Hedworthfield Primary School, year by year →
When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school are admitted first; the criteria above then decide oversubscription. The distance measurement is also used as a tie-breaker within each criterion; where two applicants are equidistant the place is decided by random allocation supervised by a person independent of the school. Every community and voluntary controlled school in South Tyneside has a defined catchment area and some streets are split between catchments — the council's School Admissions team confirms which catchment an address falls in. South Tyneside Council lists this document on its 'Determined school admission arrangements 2027-2028' page. The attached PDF is still the file circulated for consultation between 8 October and 18 November 2025 and is headed 'Proposed'; the council renamed the page after determining the arrangements without republishing a separately-titled determined file. Recorded here as the determined 2027-28 arrangements on the authority of the council's own index page. Transcribed verbatim from the document published by South Tyneside Council.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
