Brymore Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after children and all previously looked after children, including those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order.
2. 2Children of UK Armed Forces qualifying for MOD boarding fee assistance — Children of members of the UK Armed Forces who qualify for Ministry of Defence financial assistance with the cost of boarding school fees. An official government letter of confirmation is required.
3. 3Specific boarding need — Boys who meet the requirements for boarding places and who have a specific boarding need (as defined in the 'Boarding Need' section: e.g. an unstable home environment, children of service personnel who died in service or were discharged due to attributable injury, children of key workers/Crown Servants working abroad or with high mobility or shift work, children in rural isolation, or children at risk of physical or emotional harm).
4. 4High Needs Pupils (nearest accessible school) — Boys without an EHCP, identified with a sensory, physical or medical disability (High Needs Pupils), where a multi-agency professional team has identified the school as the nearest accessible school.
5. 5Older sibling attending, same address — Boys with an older sibling attending the school at the time of admission and who live at the same address.
6. 6Children of staff — Children of staff employed at Brymore Academy, either where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
7. 7Living furthest from the school — Boys living furthest from the school as determined by straight line measurement.

If two applications tie: If there are not enough places to satisfy all applications under any one criterion, priority is given to those living FURTHEST from the school (straight-line measurement) for full time/weekly boarders. Where two distances are equal, priority is determined by independent drawing of lots.

Children with an EHCP naming Brymore Academy are automatically given a place against the PAN, but only as long as they are also deemed suitable for boarding; this is not one of the numbered criteria. Academic performance is explicitly not used as a selection criterion, but every applicant (boarder and out-boarder) must first be assessed as eligible and suitable for boarding – via a formal interview, a Headteacher's report from the applicant's current school, and a Supplementary Information Form – before being ranked against the oversubscription criteria; this suitability assessment is a threshold gate rather than an academic 'selective' criterion. Boarding categories: full-time boarders (in throughout the week and weekends), weekly boarders (in Monday-Friday), and out-boarders (day pupils who board periodically, normally one week per term).
