How places are decided at Saint Pius X Catholic High School A Specialist School in Humanities

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1Catholic looked after and previously looked after children — Catholic looked after and previously looked after children. (see notes 2&3)
2Catholic children attending feeder Catholic primary school — Catholic children who attend a feeder Catholic primary school, namely: Sacred Heart Catholic Primary Goldthorpe; St Michael & All Angels Catholic Primary Wombwell; Our Lady and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary Wath-upon-Dearne; St Alban’s Catholic Primary Denaby; St Joseph’s Catholic Primary Rawmarsh; St Helen’s Catholic Primary Hoyland (see notes 3&4)

7Any other children — Any other children.

If two applications tie: Priority will be given to children living closest to the school determined by the shortest distance, measured by a straight line on a horizontal plane ('as the crow flies') using a Geographical Information System based on Ordnance Survey information. In the event of distances being the same for two or more children where this would determine the last place to be allocated, random allocation will be carried out and supervised by a person independent of the school.

Within each category, sub-provisions apply in order: (i) exceptional social, medical or pastoral need moves an application to the top of its category; (ii) sibling attendance at the school moves an application to the top of its category (after (i)); (iii) attendance at a listed feeder Catholic primary school increases priority within category 7 only. Applications must be submitted by the National Closing Date 31 October 2026. Places allocated after children with an EHCP naming the school.
