When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.
If two applications tie: Where the admission number is reached part-way through a category, places in that category go to the children living closest to the school, measured in a straight line between Ordnance Survey seed points. Where children are equidistant (for example in flats) the final place is decided by drawing lots, supervised by a council officer independent of the admissions team. Twins and siblings born in the same academic year are treated equally.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is the admission authority for its community and voluntary controlled schools and sets these criteria for all of them. Every school it admits to has a defined catchment area published on the council’s public map. Academies, voluntary aided and foundation schools set their own criteria.
Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
