Millbay Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — Looked after children and all previously looked after children. A 'looked after child' is a child in the care of, or accommodated by, a Local Authority (Section 22(1), Children Act 1989); previously looked after children include those adopted (or subject to a child arrangements or special guardianship order) immediately following being looked after, and those who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Sibling already attending — Children with a sibling already attending this school at the time of admission. A sibling lives at the same home address as a single family unit — includes natural, adopted, step, and foster brothers/sisters, and a cohabiting partner's child; excludes children of friends or cousins in the same household with different parents/carers.
3. 3Children of staff — Children whose parent/carer is a member of staff employed on a permanent contract at this school for two or more years at the time the application is made, or recruited to fill a vacant post with a demonstrable skill shortage, evidenced by the staff supplementary information form.
4. 4Reach South primary academy attendees — Children attending Reach South Primary Academies in Plymouth (applicable for entry to Year 7 normal point of entry only): Drake Primary, Goosewell Primary, High Street and Millbay Primary, Marlborough Primary, Morice Town Primary, Pilgrim Primary, Stoke Damerel Primary, Stuart Road Primary.
5. 5Distance — Children who live closest to the school as determined by the Local Authority as admissions coordinator.

If two applications tie: Where two or more children are in the same category, the child living nearer the school (straight-line distance on Plymouth Council's electronic mapping system, measured from the National Land and Property Gazetteer address point) has higher priority. If distance does not distinguish between applicants, a random ballot is held using an electronic random number generator, undertaken by an officer of Plymouth Council.

A child with an EHCP naming the school is admitted under separate statutory procedures managed by the home Local Authority, ahead of the allocation of other places (not itself one of the numbered criteria). Criterion 4 (Reach South primary academies) applies only to Year 7 normal point of entry, not in-year admissions to other year groups. No catchment area is used. Admission authority is the Trust Board of the Reach South Multi Academy Trust, delegated to the Local Governing Body. In Year 7, where one child of a multiple birth is offered a place within the PAN but the twin/triplet(s) are not, the school admits them too even if this exceeds the PAN.
