Walderslade School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — Looked after children, all previously looked after children, and children previously in care outside of England. A 'child looked after' is in the care of, or accommodated by, a Local Authority (Section 22(1), Children Act 1989); previously looked after children ceased to be looked after because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order); children previously in care outside of England appear to have been in state care outside England and ceased to be so as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Current family association (sibling) — A sibling in the school at the time of application and still attending in September 2027. Sibling means children living as brother/sister in the same house, including natural, adopted, foster and step siblings; cousins and other extended family in the same house do not qualify.
3. 3Children of staff — Children of a member of staff working at the school, where the member of staff has been employed for two or more years.
4. 4Historical sibling — Priority given to applicants with an older sibling who attended WGSP but has left within the past 5 years. Same sibling definition as above.
5. 5Child's health reasons — Medical evidence must be provided demonstrating a specific health reason requiring the child to attend WGSP as their preferred school.
6. 6Residence in the WGSP school access area — Residence in the WGSP School access area (see the school's appendix A map, also on the Medway Local Authority admissions page).
7. 7Nearness — Nearness of the child's home and ease of access to the school, per the Local Authority's definition of 'nearness' for secondary admissions 2027/28 (appendix B).

If two applications tie: In the event of a tie within any criterion before the last criterion, places go to those living closest to the school, measured by the shortest available walking route (GIS-calculated by School Admissions & Transport). In the unlikely event a tie breaker is required for what the document calls 'oversubscription criteria 9' (only 7 criteria are numbered in the published list, so this figure appears to be a drafting inconsistency, reproduced as printed), names are issued a number and drawn randomly by an independent witness (a governor).

Places are offered to pupils with an EHCP where, following consultation with the Local Authority that the child's individual needs can be met, the school is named (worded conditionally, not stated as an automatic admission, and not itself one of the seven numbered criteria). The school (The Walderslade & Greenacre Schools Partnership, WGSP) corresponds to 'Walderslade School' per the council's index; the document is transitioning the school from single-sex to co-educational provision. Selection plays no part in Year 7 admission ('The ability of a child or any special needs that s/he may have, plays no part in the admissions policy of this school').
