Folkestone Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after and previously looked after children — Looked after children and children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to adoption, a child arrangements order, or special guardianship order.
2. 2Siblings — Children with a sibling of school age living at the same address, including step and foster siblings, for whom a place has been awarded.
3. 3Named feeder schools — Children who attend named feeder schools. Our named feeder schools are Folkestone Primary, Martello Primary and Morehall Primary.
4. 4Service premium — Children eligible for the service premium. Evidence of eligibility will need to be submitted with the application (see Appendix 2).
5. 5Staff children — Children whose parents work as permanent staff members at the School being applied to, in either or both of the following circumstances: i) where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or ii) the member of staff is recruited to the Trust to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
6. 6Proximity — Proximity - the applicant living closest to school will have priority (in the event of one or more applicants tying after application of criteria (a-e) and measurement will be on the same basis as set out in the tie-break information below.

If two applications tie: Nearness of children's homes to school, measured by straight-line distance using the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point; where distances are equal, a process of random allocation overseen by someone independent of the Academy and Trust will be used, except that children of multiple births tied for the final place will be admitted over PAN.

For Year 7 entry only, priority admission within the PAN is given to 6 Special Resource Provision (SRP) places for pupils with an EHCP referred by KCC, and up to 10% of places may be admitted based on aptitude in creative arts via a supplementary information form (Creative Arts Ambassadors); applicants not offered under this category are automatically considered under the open criteria above. Children with an EHCP naming the Academy are admitted first by law before these criteria are applied.
