The Broxbourne School

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Children looked after and previously looked after — Children looked after and children who were previously looked after, including those who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England, and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted or became subject to a child arrangements order or a special guardianship order
2. 2Medical and/or social need — Children for whom it can be demonstrated that they have a particular medical and/or social need which makes Broxbourne School the only school for that child
3. 3Children of staff — Children of staff at the school where the member of staff has been employed under a contract of employment with the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made or the member of staff is recruited under a contract of employment to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage
4. 4Siblings — Children who have an older brother or sister (a sibling) at the school living at the same address at the time of application, unless it is anticipated that the sibling will have left the school before the date of proposed admission of the applicant
5. 5Home to school distance (tie-breaker) — Home to school distance is used as the 'tie-breaker' to allocate any remaining places within the 90% of places allocated to criteria 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Home to school distance will be measured using the home-school measurement system used by Hertfordshire County Council
6. 6Aptitude for languages — The remaining 10% of places will be allocated for children who show an aptitude for languages on the basis of an assessment of aptitude carried out by the school. Priority will be given to those with the highest score in this test. In the event of a tie-break being required under this criterion, places will be allocated using criterion 5 (home-school distance)

If two applications tie: Home to school distance measured using Hertfordshire County Council's straight line distance measurement system to two decimal places, measured from the AddressBase Premium address point of the child's house to the address point of the school.

Section 324 of the Education Act 1996 requires the governing body of the school to admit a child with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) that names the school. These children will be admitted within the school's PAN but before any child prioritised under the school's oversubscription criteria. 90% of allocations made using criteria 1-5; remaining 10% for aptitude for languages. If applications for places under criterion 6 are less than 10% of the total, any remaining places will be added to the places available under criteria 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
