Sacred Heart of Mary Girls' School

When there are more applications than places for 2028-29 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after baptised Catholic girls — Looked After girls or girls who were looked after but ceased to be because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order) and who are baptised Catholics.
2. 2Practising Catholic girls in Diocese — Practicing Catholic girls resident in the Diocese of Brentwood whose practice is endorsed by their Parish Priest or by the Priest of the Parish where the family attends Mass and is known.
3. 3Other baptised Catholic girls in Diocese — Other baptised Catholic girls resident in the Diocese of Brentwood.
4. 4Eastern Christian Church girls — Other girls who are members of an Eastern Christian Church, as confirmed by their parish priest.
5. 5Other looked after girls — Other looked after girls or girls who were looked after but ceased to be because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).
6. 6Other girls recommended by Minister of Religion in Diocese — Other girls resident in the Diocese of Brentwood who are recommended by a Minister of Religion.
7. 7Any other girl — Any other girl.
8. 8Tie-break (a): named parishes — Those applicants who reside in the Parishes of: Christ the Eternal High Priest - Gidea Park; Corpus Christi - Collier Row; St. Alban - Elm Park; St. Mary Mother of God - Hornchurch; English Martyrs - Hornchurch; Our Lady of La Salette - Rainham; St. Edward the Confessor - Romford; St. Joseph - Upminster. The Parishes named in (a) above are not in priority order.
9. 9Tie-break (b): sibling — Those applicants who have a sister attending the School in Years 7 to 13 at the time of application.
10. 10Tie-break (c): distance — The distance of the applicant’s home from the School as the crow flies using the Local Authority’s distance calculation software, with those living nearest being given priority... In the event that two, or more, applicants applying for a single place at the School live at addresses that are located at exactly the same distance from the School, or live in the same block of flats, the place will be offered on the basis of lots drawn by an Officer of the Local Authority who is not involved in the admissions process.

If two applications tie: The distance of the applicant’s home from the School as the crow flies using the Local Authority’s distance calculation software, with those living nearest being given priority; if exactly equal, the place is offered on the basis of lots drawn by an Officer of the Local Authority who is not involved in the admissions process.

Document also sets out separate Year 12 (Sixth Form) admission criteria (PAN 45 for external candidates) with its own oversubscription order, not included above as this schema covers the main Year 7 oversubscription criteria. Tie-break sub-criteria (a) parish, (b) sibling, (c) distance apply, in that order, whenever a category is oversubscribed.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
