Alec Reed Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after children and children who were previously looked after — Looked after children and children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to adoption, a child arrangements order, or special guardianship order, including children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Confirmed special medical reason which necessitates attendance at Alec Reed Academy — A letter from a qualified medical practitioner is required as proof of such a reason.
3. 3Special personal circumstances relating to the child which necessitate attendance at Alec Reed Academy — Supporting written evidence will be required from a professional, e.g. a social worker. The School Service Panel will consider all claimed exceptional medical or personal circumstances in line with admissions criteria and inform parents of their decision.
4. 4Brother or sister still in attendance at Alec Reed Academy Primary or High School at the date of admission — This includes siblings living in the same household, step-siblings and adopted siblings, but does not apply to cousins.
5. 5Distance from home to the Academy — Measured by straight line from a point in the property determined by Ordnance Survey to the nearest gated entrance which is used by pupils to enter the Academy grounds. Where there is a shared responsibility arrangement and the pupil spends part of the week with each parent/guardian, the closest of those residences is used. The measuring system is part of the admissions software produced by Tribal Technology Ltd, uses Ordnance Survey maps and is accurate to 1 metre.
6. 6Random allocation where distance is equal — Where the comparison and calculation of distance is the same for more than one application, any remaining places will be randomly allocated.

The Academy has an agreed annual admission number of 90 pupils per year for the Primary School and 180 for the High School and is not selective. The same criteria a-f apply to both phases.
