When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 7), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after children and children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order). This includes children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. 2Children living in the normal area served by the school at the time of application and admission who have brothers or sisters attending the school at the time of application and admission.
3. 3Children living in the normal area served by the school at the time of application and admission.
4. 4Children not living in the normal area served by the school but who have brothers or sisters attending the school at the time of application and admission.
5. 5Other children whose parents have requested a place.

If two applications tie: Where, in the case of criteria 2, 3, 4 and 5, choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, those children living nearest to the school measured by the straight line distance will be given preference. The children and adults department uses a Geographic Information System to measure the straight line distance.

Derbyshire County Council is the admission authority for its community and voluntary controlled schools. Transcribed from the council's published admissions criteria for the September 2027 intake. Pupils with an education, health and care plan naming the school are admitted before the criteria are applied. 'Living in the normal area' means the child having settled full-time residence in a property which is the child's only or main residence. Documentary evidence of actual permanent residency may be required. A place cannot be guaranteed for any child, even one living in a school's normal area. The term brother or sister includes (a) a half-brother and/or half-sister, (b) a legally adopted child being regarded as a brother or sister, and (c) a step-brother and/or step-sister residing in the same family unit. Attendance at a particular primary school gives no priority for admission to a particular secondary school. Distance is measured by a standard straight line calculated to within 2 metres.
