Alvaston Junior Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Year 3), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked after / previously looked after children — A 'looked after child' or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in section 22(1) of the Children Act (1989).
2. 2Children previously in state care outside England and adopted — Children who appear to Derby City Council to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. A child is regarded as having been in state care in a place outside of England if they were accommodated by a public authority, a religious organisation, or any other provider of care whose sole purpose is to benefit society.
3. 3Catchment area children with siblings at the school — Children who are both living in the catchment area served by the school and have brothers or sisters* of compulsory school age still attending the school at the time of their admission.
4. 4Other catchment area children — Other children living in the catchment area.
5. 5Out-of-catchment children with siblings at the school — Children who do not live in the catchment area served by the school but who have brothers or sisters* of compulsory school age still attending the school at the time of their admission.
6. 6Other children whose parents requested a place — Other children whose parents have requested a place.
7. 7Late applicants — Children whose parents did not request a place by the closing date.

If two applications tie: When choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, children living nearest to the school measured by a straight line have priority. The line will be measured from the centre of the home address to the school using the national Ordnance Survey set points. If two measurements are the same, we will give priority to the child living nearest the school measured by the shortest walking route from the home address to the school's main entrance. In the unlikely event the two walking routes measure the same distance, the place will be allocated using an independently verified random allocation process. The 'home address' is the address of the primary carer of the child, as shown by who receives the Child Benefit.

This is a single policy covering nine academies in the Harmony Trust Derby hub, each with its own PAN: Alvaston Junior Primary Academy 90, Ash Croft Primary Academy 30, Carlyle Infant and Nursery Academy 60, Cavendish Close Junior Primary Academy 90, Cottons Farm Primary Academy 20, Hackwood Primary Academy 30, Lakeside Primary Academy 90, Reigate Park Primary Academy 60, Village Primary Academy 90. Siblings definition: having one or both natural parents in common, being related by a parent's marriage, or who are adopted or fostered; must be living at the same address; siblings in Under 3s units, Nursery & Year 6 in the year of application do not count. Multiple births allocated together within Infant Class Size Legislation limits.
