Leigh Church of England Academy

When there are more applications than places for 2027-28 (Reception), places are offered in this order of priority. Meeting a higher criterion beats meeting a lower one.

1. 1Looked After Children — A 'looked after child' or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order including those who appear [to the admission authority] to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989).
2. 2Siblings who live in the priority area of the academy — A child is considered in this category if a sibling is attending the academy at the time of application and will continue to do so at the time of admission i.e. at the start of the new academic year, and where the child lives at the same address as the sibling and is living within the priority area of the academy.
3. 3Faith related criteria within the priority area — i. The child is, or one of their parents is, a regular worshipper at a Church, who worships twice a month (which may equally include weekday and Sunday acts of worship) for a minimum period of 2 years. ii. The child is, or one of their parents is, a regular but not frequent worshipper at a Church, who worships once a month at either a weekday or Sunday act of worship or attends a church activity (such as a Church Parade Service) which includes an element of public worship, for a minimum period of 2 years. iii. The child is, or one of their parents is, an occasional worshipper at a Church who worships more than twice a year at either a weekday or Sunday act of worship or attends a church activity (such as a Church Parade Service) which includes an element of public worship, for a minimum period of 2 years.
4. 4Other children who live within the priority area of the academy — Other children who live within the priority area of the academy.
5. 5Siblings who live outside the priority area of the academy — A child is considered in this category if a child is attending the academy at the time of application and will continue to do so at the time of admission i.e. at the start of the new academic year.
6. 6Faith related criteria outside the priority area — i. If two applications tie: If an academy is oversubscribed within any of the oversubscription criteria, the determining factor will be the distance from the child's home address to the academy (priority being given to the shorter measurement), calculated by straight line measurement using a computerised mapping system. If two or more children with the same priority for admission live an indistinguishable distance from the academy, but cannot both be admitted, then the places will be decided by the drawing of names from a hat, independently overseen and verified by a governor or Academy Governance Committee member from another school.

Local Authority for this academy is Coventry City Council. A detailed street-level priority area is published for the parishes of Fletchamstead, Tile Hill, Canley and Westwood. Parents wishing to be given preference on the grounds of faith must complete the supplementary application form (Appendix 2), returned directly to the academy office, alongside the Common Application Form.

Published by the admission authority. Meeting a criterion never guarantees a place — it sets the order places are offered in. Full detail, other entry points and previous years are on the Admissions tab.
